National Weekend of Prayer for LGBTQ Justice

On Dec. 5, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission. This hearing will consider whether a business open to the public has a constitutional right to discriminate based on their religious beliefs. As people of faith, who believe in God of abundance, we are called to support justice, dignity, and equal treatment for LGBTQ people. Living into this call challenges us to take a stand publicly, saying that religious beliefs do not grant anyone a right to discriminate.

On December 1 – 3, the weekend before these oral arguments begin, we are calling on our More Light Congregations to take action and join the National Weekend of Prayer, a weekend designated for faith communities to join together and pray for LGBTQ justice – that we might live in a world where all people are free from injustice, violence, and discrimination. There are many worship and educational resources for you and your congregation to use from our friends at the Religious Institute. We encourage you to take a look at these resources. We also encourage you and your congregation to take your prayers into the streets and join actions happening in your local community.
